Jean Paul Brun Côte de Brouilly (750ml)

The Cote de Brouilly is a separate appellation from Brouilly.  It is situated higher up in the hills of Beaujolais, on the slopes of Mont Brouilly.  This cru is the only cru in Beaujolais to have vineyards on slopes facing all directions, south, north, east and west and also has some diorite in the soil which is a volcanic element that is said to impart a unique note of pepper to the wines.   Its wines are  known for being more concentrated and longer-lived than Brouilly, though it is still considered on of the more “medium” bodied Beaujolais crus.  

Jean Paul Brun’s wine’s undergo natural wild yeast fermentation, he used minimal SO2 at bottling and you might note a slight livelyliness on the palate when you taste his wine’s as he choses to leave some CO2 (a natural bi-product of fermentation) in the wine at bottling as it naturally protects wines from oxidation and brings freshness.
