Poggio Argentiera has been in operation since 1997. The company owns land in an area between the Tyrrhenian Sea and Mount Amiata, in the heart of the Maremma, a coastal area of western central Italy that borders. They have 22 hectares of vineyards and grow and produce with great respect for the vine and their terroir.
Tasting Notes
Pronounced aromas of ripe red and black berries, spice and pleasing balsamic notes. The palate is medium to full bodied with concentrated pure fruit flavours and suave texture, medium acidity and fine ripe tannins. Excellent with salumi and cheese as well as pasta with meat or game sauces. Red meat dishes.
Method
This is IGT Toscana is a blend of 95% Sangiovese and 5% Alicante. The vineyards are located in Bacinello, the hilly part, of the province of Grossetto within the Maremma. In fact, the grapes for this wine are just 30km from the sea! The grapes for Poggio Argentiera Capatosta grow on stone and clay alluvial soil. The grapes are manually harvested and refrigerated for a short period. The must goes through a quick maceration before gradual fermentation at 18-28 °C for about 15 days in stainless steel and truncated cone-shaped oak tanks (50 hl). After, the wine macerates for 12-15 days. The wine rests for 15 months in used French oak tonneaux.
