The Tatamagouche Brewing Company (commonly referred to as “Tata”) is a family owned and operated craft brewery located in the heart of Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia. In 2014, the family converted an old butcher shop into a brewery, and have since added several additions to the sides and back of the building to help accommodate their growth. In 2023 the brewery launched Nomad, a line of alcohol-free beer. Tata Brew have won awards provincially as well as nationally while they continue to grow their team and brand.

Tasting Notes

Deception Bay pours with a slightly haze, and has vibrant aromas of orange juice, stone fruit, herbal notes, subtle caramel malts, and lots of citrus zest. The palate is full of hoppy flavour and drinks smooth and refreshing with a firm bitterness but not overpowering. This is one of the more smooth and balanced IPAs we sell.

Method

This American IPA is named after Deception Bay, once thought to be the original name of River John – Tatamagouche’s neighbour.

Brewed with Frontenac organic Pilsner Malt, bittered with Magnum hops, and then dry-hopped plentifully with Huell Melon, Mandarina Bavaria, and Citra adding a complex array of citrus, herbal, tropical, and stonefruit aromas and flavours.

Our Thoughts

Another entry into the category of hoppy beers that you’ll enjoy even if you don’t think you like hoppy beers. Make no mistake, it’s pleasantly bitter but most of the hops being used here give it refreshingly juicy notes of orange and peach. It’s a beer that’ll sneak up on you after you’ve had a couple, as it’s deceptively easy drinking for 6.2%; I like to have it with food that has a little bit of heat to it.
