Family owned and operated, Domaine de Grand Pré winery was built on love and passion for Nova Scotia and exceptional wine and food. Hanspeter Stutz, owner and father, is a visionary who first took a leap of faith in 1994, trusting that something special could be established to grow the Nova Scotia wine industry. He wanted to create a world-class destination while building a future for his family. Hanspeter’s children and their partners manage the vineyards, the winery, the restaurant Le Caveau, and an inn that opened in 2022. Jurg Stutz is the winemaker at the estate and crafts polished and elegant wines year after year. The Domaine is known for its crisp and clean flavour profile and they pride themselves in using only 100 per cent Nova Scotian grown grapes.
Tasting Notes
Grand Pré’s 2024 Tidal Bay is an off-dry white wine that offers intense tropical aromas combined with notes of refreshing citrus, fresh peach, and minerality. On the palate, refreshing flavours of green apple and stone fruit give way to juicy notes of orange and grapefruit.
As always, it is refreshing, crisp, and light—everything a Tidal Bay should be! Although refreshingly crisp, the wine has a satisfying roundness that adds to the overall complexity and is a great pairing for any Nova Scotia seafood dish, aromatic and lightly spicy foods.
Method
Overall, fruit quality in 2024 was exceptionally good, with Brix levels reaching their highest average in years! Yields were still affected by the Polar Vortex from the previous winter. As a result, vine health was our top priority, and in some cases, we intentionally kept crop levels low. Compared to 2023, it was a great growing season, aside from some rain during flowering and heavy downpours in early July.
The 2024 is a blend of L’Acadie Blanc (45%), Seyval Blanc (18%), Vidal Blanc (16%), Ortega (11%), and New York Muscat (10%). 13.5 g/L RS.
