Vecchio Amaro del Capo is the most famous liquor produced by Distillerie Caffo in Calabria, Italy. It is the result of a century of experience and over the years, the most prestigious juries in the world have recognized its uniqueness. It is an herb based liqueur that was developed from an old family recipe. The product has been improved over the years thanks to the expertise of the Caffo family acquired over 4
generations of distilling . Vecchio Amaro del Capo encloses the active principles of plenty of herbs, flowers, fruits and roots growing in Calabria infused with the finest alcohol.
Tasting Notes
Vecchio Amaro del Capo should always be served chilled. The mint, aniseed and liquorice emerge in all their strength, while the herbs create a fresh and seductive sensory experience.
Method
A mix of twenty-nine herbs, flowers, fruits and roots from Calabria’s beautiful land, are blended to provide an intense experience of pleasure: the bittersweet taste of oranges, the delicacy of orange blossom and chamomile, the intensity of liquorice, peppermint and aniseed. All combined in a single, unique and secret recipe.
Our Thoughts
This past summer I spent three incredible weeks in Italy with my family; many of our meals ended with some kind of herbal digestivo and Vecchio Amaro del Capo was the liquor of choice. After a hearty meal, an icy cold shot of this Calabrian digestivo with its minty and liquorice aromas, flavours and balanced bitterness really hit the spot. Serve it up like an Italian by storing your Amaro del Capo in the freezer and pouring it into pre-chilled shot glasses after a big meal. A little goes a long way and I like to sip, savour and slowly enjoy.
