Dolin RED Vermouth de Chambery

Dolin is one of the last independent vermouth producers and still follows the basic recipes from 1821. Chambery is the only controlled appellation in France for the production of vermouth and Dolin is the last producer of Vermouth de Chambery. There is truly nothing else quite like it. The Dolin vermouths remain much closer to the delicate base ingredients from which they are made and are more akin to fine wine than the grocery store vermouths most of us are used to.

Punt E Mes

Pronounced “poont-eh-mess” in the Piemontese dialect, it means a point and a half. The story goes that on 19 April 1870 , a stockbroker, caught up in a discussion with colleagues whilst in the Carpano wine shop about the increase in share prices on that day – one and a half points – ordered his usual Carpano vermouth but asked for the barman to add half a measure of bitter, using the regional expression “Punt e Mes”. The drink immediately became popular as an aperitif before lunch, as recalled by the barman of the time Maurizio Boeris.

The bizzarre origin of this new name came into common use not long after, with “regulars” of the wine shop ordering Punt e Mes with a gesture.Whereby they would only need to raise their thumb to mean one Point and trace a straight line upwards in mid-air to mean a Half point for the barman to understand straight away that they wanted a Punt e Mes. It was a favourite drink of the founder of FIAT, Giovanni Agnelli, as he recalled in his memoirs of 1916.

Timothy Taylor - Landlord Pale Ale

In 1858, Timothy Taylor established his brewery in the center of Keighley and only 5 years later moved to today’s brewing site in The Knowle Spring where he was able to tap into the best natural resource he could have asked for: the naturally soft and very pure Knowle Spring water.

One fundamental principle stands above all at Timothy Taylor: “Do not accept the second best.” Following these words, only the best possible ingredients are used to brew, which may be a little more complex and more expensive, but at the end of the day well worth it!

The Timothy Taylor brewery has become one of the most iconic, tenured, and quality brewers of traditional beer in the UK.
