Ribera del Duero
Ribera del Duero is surrounded by mountains on the high expansive flat plains of central Spain known as the Meseta Central. It has a continental climate, but because of the high elevation of many vineyards, some at 850 meters, those locations cool off significantly in the nighttime providing optimal ripening conditions for its main red grape, Tempranillo to develop fruit and still retain acidity. The clone of Tempranillo is known as Tinto Fino here; it has a thicker skin than Tempranillo grown in Rioja, therefore Ribera del Duero’s Tinto Fino is deeper in colour, more powerful and tannic than most Rioja.
