It is said that viticulture and winemaking at the Remelluri estate dates back to 14th century monks. The modern day estate was purchased in 1967 by Jaime Rodriguez. In 2010, Jaime’s son and daughter, Telmo and Amaia Rodríguez, took the reins of the estate and set about making a series of changes to showcase the potential and diversity of Remelluri’s terroirs. They reduced their production and began only making wine from estate grown grapes for their Remelluri label. They are respect tradition and switched their trellis trained Garnacha to the traditional bush trained vines as well as mixed field plantings. Remelluri has always eschewed chemical treatments in the vineyard and 2010 marked the year of the estate’s full organic certification. Wines are fermented with native yeasts, each plot is vinified separately, new oak is used very scarcely and the wines are very lightly filtered and fined.
Aromatic with lots of red fruit, savory notes, spice and tobacco. The palate is smooth, elegant, with concentrated fruit, savory and earthy. Fine-grained tannins and crisp acidity on the palate are seamless. The wine is harmonious on the palate with a lingering finish of spice and dark fruit.
This is the flagship wine of the Remelluri estate. Made predominantly from Tempranillo, with small portions of Garnacha, Graciano, Viura and Malvasía. The organic grapes grow on calcareous clay soil. The wine ferments via indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks and wooden barrels. It is aged for about 16 months in barrel and released after a minimum of three years in the cellar.
