Marco Barba Barbarossa

Marco “Barba”, grew up in Madonna di Lonigo, near Vicenza.  He is the heart (and the face, if you check the label closely) of the Marcobarba project.  Marco took an interest in organic and biodynamic farming from an early age.   “Marcobarba” started as a social project carried on by Marco and friends he met working with another Venetian natural winemaker, Stefano Menti.  Today the “Barbaboyz” take care of small plots of abandoned vineyards owned by some elderly widows, between the white sedimentary terrains of the Berici Hills and the dark and volcanic soils of Gambellara.  From the grapes they grow with biodynamic practices, Marco produces about 40,000 bottles a year: a fizzy white wine, a still white and a red wine.  Marco and the Barbaboyz’ winemaking and bottling is done in the Menti Giovanni Winery.

DeMorgenzon DMZ Chardonnay

Situated in Stellenbosch, DeMorgenzon (the morning sun) was purchased in 2003 by Wendy and Hylton Appelbaum and since then, they’ve transformed the estate into a 91ha “garden vineyard,” with 55ha dedicated to carefully tended vines. With parts of the estate ranging from 200m to 400m above sea level, the views of the mountains, the sea, and the surrounding area from the property heavily influenced what was planted and where; taking colours into account. Additionally, 10% of the estate has been set aside for the restoration of Renosterveld (a threatened habitat in the Cape Floral Kingdom), where 15ha of pine forest and other invasive species have been cleared and more is being done as necessary.

Reflected in their Maestro series, since 2009, Baroque and early Classical music has been played to their growing vines as well as in the winery and cellar; the estate reports positive results from playing harmonious music. Although the winery is most widely recognized for their estate grown Chenin Blanc, they also dabble in other Southern France varietals such as Roussane, Grenache Blanc, Viognier, Marasanne, Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Grenache.

Fairweather Brewing - High Grade IPA

After a few incidents of fate and circumstance, Fairweather opened its doors in May 2017. The brewery is home in a revitalized warehouse in west Hamilton’s Ainslie Wood neighbourhood. In addition to a taproom and bottle shop, they have a 60 seat patio, and a 10,000 square foot production facility which doubles as an event space.

Whether the brewers area exploring bright hoppy IPAs, rich, silky stouts and porters, elegant, classic continental lagers, or fruited and oak-aged beers that explore the edges of what beer can be, Fairweather will never be satisfied. They will tirelessly strive to create the best beer you will find anywhere. Period.

Erdinger - Weissbier

Founded in 1886, the Erdinger Brewery – dedicated to the brewing of wheat beer and wheat beer only – resides in the quaint Bavarian town of Erding, 30 minutes northeast of Munich. Erdinger Weissbier pioneered the awareness and consumption of wheat beer outside of the Bavarian region where it has its roots, remaining in strict compliance with the Bavarian purity law and secondary fermentation that have history and tradition in the region. Erdinger Weissbeer continues to be the world’s largest producer of wheat beer, and one of the last remaining privately owned breweries, still owned and operated by the Brombach family today.

Veltins - German Pilsner

In 1824, a small brewery in Grevenstein began to brew beer in accordance with the German Purity Law. Over 190 years later, one of the most modern private breweries in Europe has now been built in its place: Brauerei C. & A. VELTINS.

The success story of the company, which has been run by the Veltins family for five generations has its foundations in a passion for artisanal brewing, innovation, investment, entrepreneurial vision and a corporate culture that is characterised by team spirit and the highest quality standards. As such, right up until the present day, the premium beer is exclusively brewed from the highest quality ingredients – malt, hops, yeast and purest spring water – strictly according to the German Purity Law of 1516. The water that rises from the springs in the conservation area around Grevenstein is exceptionally soft.
