Sierra de Enmedio Rose 3000ml

Bodegas Alceno, founded in 1870, was the first commercial winery in Spain’s Jumilla region. The vines are planted at a height of 600 to 800 meters in rocky and chalky soils. DO Jumilla is located on a high plain in the eastern region of Spain, acting as a transition zone between the Mediterranean coastal area and the high central plateau of Castile-La Mancha.

We are excited to see this favourite value rose in an extra large bottle. This is a sign of some shared good times ahead!

Feudo di Santa Tresa Frappato

Feudo di Santa Tresa estate has around 123 acres of vineyards in the historical vine growing region of Vittoria.  Lying close to the Mediterranean, Feudo di Santa Tresa’s vineyards benefit from cooling sea breezes. The estate’s soil consists of a layer of light, red, sandy loam (terra rossa) resting on top of a limestone base, which helps retain vital water. In order to preserve this rich terroir, only natural techniques are used to assist cultivation. While the abundant wind and scarce rainfall naturally protect against pest, infestations are further prevented through limited copper and sulfur treatments.  In addition, only natural fertilizers are used to avoid introducing chemicals into the topsoil. Undersoil irrigation is utilized to prevent evaporation, thereby maximizing water efficiency.

Joseph Phelps Insignia

Beginning in 1974 was a period of unparalleled activity, creativity, ingenuity, entrepreneurship and risk-taking that put Joe Phelps on the map of top Napa Valley wine producers.  1974 was a great year for Cabernet Sauvignon in Napa Valley and the 1974 Insignia was 94% Cabernet from the Stags Leap District. The following year Merlot dominated the blend, and in 1976, it returned to Cabernet, this time from the Eisele Vineyard. It was becoming increasingly clear that red Bordeaux varieties – particularly Cabernet Sauvignon – were ideally suited to Napa Valley and would consistently yield the best wines of the vintage. From 1977 on, Cabernet Sauvignon was never less than 50% of the Insignia blend and gradually became the dominant varietal. Joe’s vision evolved: Insignia would always be a proprietary red Bordeaux-style blend.

“The story of Insignia is a reflection of my grandfather’s character. He was a pioneer and an original who didn’t want to do what had already been done. He saw an opportunity to create something very special. With Insignia, he created California’s first proprietary red Bordeaux-style blend.” – Elizabeth Neuman, Joe’s Granddaughter

Villiera Abraham and The Heretics Pinotage

Once infamously described by one winemaker in the Cape as ‘The bastard son of Pinot Noir’, let’s face it, Pinotage rarely gets a good press – even within a nation that somewhat naively considers it South Africa’s ‘signature’ variety. One can imagine the brief given to Abraham Izak Perold who perfected the crossing of Pinot Noir and Cinsault in 1924: ‘Professor, we want you to create a uniquely South African grape variety that has all the nobility of Pinot Noir but the high-yielding potential of Cinsault’. Pinotage is what they got. Abraham and the Heretics is something of a tongue-in-cheek challenge to those non-believers to accept the variety into their vinous lives.

Luxardo Maraschino

Luxardo is a family-owned company founded in Zara, a port city on the Dalmatian coast of what is now Croatia. Girolamo Luxardo, a Genovese businessman, and his wife, Maria Canevari, moved to Zara in 1817. It was Maria who began perfecting “rosolio maraschino,” a liqueur produced in Dalmatian convents since medieval times from special maraschino cherries. In 1913, Michelangelo Luxardo built the most modern and massive distillery in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, but it was destroyed in World War II by Anglo-American bombings. Only one member of the fourth generation, Giorgio Luxardo, survived the World War II invasion and fled to Italy. Escaping with only a cherry sapling, Giorgio crossed the Adriatic Sea to the Veneto region of northeast Italy and reconnected with a colleague who had saved the Luxardo recipe book. Armed with the surviving tools and a desire to reestablish his family’s legacy, Giorgio chose the small Veneto city of Torreglia to rebuild the distillery in 1946. At this new home, Luxardo restored its extensive product line of Italian liqueurs and continued to export the products to markets around the world. Luxardo continues to produce Maraschino to Maria Canevari’s original recipe, as it was written down in 1821. Today, Luxardo is operated by Franco Luxardo of the family’s fifth generation, along with members of the sixth.
