The Lodi Valley is home to some of the oldest Zinfandel vines in California. In 2004 Gnarly Head Vineyards traveled to Lodi on a mission to make more serious Zinfandel and in pursuit of the oldest gnarliest vines, they could find. This is the result of their dedication and passion to make good wine from a grape that is sometimes overlooked in favor of Cabernet.
Notes of Plumb, Blackberry, and pepper follow-through from the nose to the palate. The mouthfeel is rich but not over the top, well structured and balanced. Bitter chocolate and vanilla toast linger on the finish. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and value of this wine. This is for sure a sleeper pick that will wow most if given the chance.Read more about Jason
