Calabria
Calabria is the toe of the boot and extends from the Strait of Messina northeast to the Gulf of Taranto. Catanzaro is the region’s capital and Reggio di Calabria the largest city. Calabria is a predominantly red wine region producing wines from the Gaglioppo grape (a natural crossing of Sangiovese and Mantonico Bianco) and is the main grape of Ciro DOC, Calabria’s most well known red wine. The principle white wine grape is Greco.
