Chile

Chile may be the closest thing to heaven for grape growers. Between the moderating effects of the Pacific Ocean to the incredible geology of the Andes mountain range, the country has optimal growing conditions and remains virtually pest-free. In that vein, Chile is one of the last wine growing regions that continues to keep its own rootstock as it is one of the few places in the world that has not been affected by Phylloxera (the aphid-like insect that kills vines responsible for the devastation of most of Europe in the 19th century.)

Chile has experienced a huge growth of quantity and quality at an affordable cost. With such easy wine growing conditions and relatively low production costs, it is no wonder that some of the most famous winemakers in the world have invested in wineries in Chile.
