Spy Valley Sauvignon Blanc

First established in 1993 by Bryan and Jan Johnson in Marlborough, the couple started with 153ha and have since grown to 162ha+ across the region. Producing their first vintage under the Spy Valley label in 2000, the winery is still 100% family-owned, something of a rarity in New Zealand today. The winery sits just up the road from the Waihopai Station, a secure communication facility run by the New Zealand government- inspiring the name Spy Valley and its other label, Satellite.

The primary focus lies with Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc, two classic varietals found all over the country. However, the team at Spy Valley has a passion for aromatic wines and also grows/produces wines from the following grapes: Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer, Merlot, Syrah, and Malbec. With 150,000+ cases annually, both the winery and vineyards are certified sustainable by the New Zealand Winegrowing program.

Rolly Gassmann Riesling

The Gassmann family has been making wine in the village of Rorschwihr since 1661.  The current domaine name dates to the 1967 marriage of Marie-Therese Rolly and Louis Gassmann.  Today the estate is largely managed by their son Pierre Gassmann.  With 126 acres under vine and vast cellars extending six stories deep under their hillside and capable of holding a million bottles of wine, Domaine Rolly-Gassman makes some of the most compelling wines in Alsace.  In 1997 they added a biodynamic philosophy to their traditional ongoing approach of minimal interference with the vines. Pierre has an in-depth knowledge of estate’s terroir (a complex mosaic of limestone and marls), focuses on low yields and rigorously selects grapes.

Each plot is vinified separately using a very slow fermentation with wild natural yeasts. Fermentations generally stop in winter in their cool, deep cellars, leaving significant residual sweetness in many of the wines. The result is lush and balanced style and a certain velvety sweetness that characterizes the wines.  It is only as wines are tasted and deemed appropriately aged that the wines are released to the market, sometimes as many as 20 years after bottling.  Pierre Gassmann insists on late harvesting and lengthy cellaring after bottling, creating luscious yet balanced styles.

Saint Cosme Gigondas

In the heart of the appellation Gigondas, the Château de Saint Cosme is an exceptional estate, with its Gallo-Roman fermentation vats perfectly preserved.  The property has been in the Barruol family since 1490 and they have been vignerons for 14 generations.  Louis Barruol has been in charge of Domaine Saint Cosme since 1992.  They have 15 has of old vines (average 60 years old) with a yield of around 27Hos/Ha and also are negociants-vignerons where they work closely with growers and purchase fruit before harvest.   Saint Cosme is exceptionally located at the crossing of two geological faults, which is very rare; this gives the site an extraordinary diversity of soils. The microclimate is cool and late ripening.  The Saint Cosme’s Chapel, located in the heart of their estate vineyard in Gigondas is a pure example of roman art; built at the XI and XII century it exemplifies purity, balance and beauty and gives an intense and special atmosphere to the vineyard.  Louis Barruol carries out the work “à la main”.  They practice organic viticulture and strive to make wines which express their terroir with purity and personality; they are balanced wines with a great ability to age.

Whispering Angel Rose

Located on elevated land near Gorges de Pennafort, 25 km northwest of the ancient Roman city of Frejus on the Mediterranean coast, the first traces of the Château’s site date back to times when Gauls (Celtic people of mainland Europe in the Iron Age and the Roman period) used the elevated land as a lookout point, to spot intruders coming by boat into the Gulf of Frejus.

Spearheaded by Sacha Lichine, son of famous Alexis Lichine (wine lover, importer, Bordeaux château owner, educator, and salesman), he’s been involved in just about every aspect of the wine business, from work in the vineyards to the sale of the final product. He started his wine journey by working at his family properties Château Prieuré Lichinne and Château Lascombes during the summers of his youth and soon found himself leading American tourists on guided trips through Europe, visiting the finest restaurants and wineries in the process. From there, he dabbled in many different importing endeavours involving wines from all over France but most notably, Bordeaux and Burgundy.

Nothing compares to his acquisition of Château d’Esclans in Provence back in 2006; Sacha’s ambitious efforts to develop more seriously produced Rosé has paid of with a successful range of wines that include: Whispering Angel, Garrus, and The Palm. In 2019, Louis Vuitton Möet Hennessy (LVMH) purchased a 55% stake in the company with Sacha retaining 45%, establishing a new partnership.

Champagne Gimonnet Cuis 1er Cru

Pierre Gimonnet & Fils is a grower Champagne house with more vineyard acreage in the Côte des Blancs than any other recoltant manipulant or grower. Spanning 69 acres!

The Gimmonets have many old-vine parcels in 30 acres of some of the Côte des Blancs’ choicest grands crus, but the house makes no Champagnes that meet grand cru regulations. Instead, they consciously choose to blend from different sites in order to craft their desired style. All of their reserve wines used for their NV are housed in bottles rather than the more common practice of keeping reserve wines in tanks.

Villa Cafaggio Chianti Classico Riserva

With records that date back to 1408, Villa Cafaggio’s estate was then referred to as “Cahago,” which means “enclosed, cultivated field.” Later in the fifteenth century, there was evidence to suggest that the property was owned by Benedictine monks of Siena. After the monks, the property would have many owners (most notably, the famous Niccolini family of Florence) but one of the more intriguing owners would be the Florentine Hospital of Santa Maria Nuova; it was believed that various fruits and vegetables were farmed during their time of ownership, along with the cultivation and production of grapes for wine and olives for oil. The land would eventually be purchased by the Farkas family in the 1860s and in 1967, the proprietors decided to renovate the wine cellars as well as replant the vineyards and olive groves.

In present day, Villa Cafaggio covers approximately 60 ha, 30 ha dedicated to vineyards and 3 ha for olive groves- the rest of the property is entirely woodlands. Nestled in “Conca d’Oro,” which means “golden basin,” this area is known as one of the best for producing Chianti Classico. Owned, operated, and managed by La-Vis Group, a financial holding company from Trento, they produce four Chianti Classico wines and two “cru” wines; Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, respectfully.

Normindia Gin

At the early part of the 20th century, after spending months discovering new flavors while travelling around India, Pierre, the third generation of Domaine du Coquerel family, returned to business school but couldn’t forget the unqiue flavours and experiences he had while travelling.  After years of working in France and in the United States where he explored hundreds of different spirits he fell in love with the versatile canvas that is gin.

He later joined the family distillery producing Calvados, Pommeau and Cidre but he was still thinking about the exotic flavours of his travels and his desire to produce a gin. In 1937 the family began developing their own signature gin and found inspiration in an old family book dated from 1765 called “La Chymie du Goût et de l’Odorat” containing a recipe for a juniper distillate which was loved by Louis XV – King of France. By fusing the experiences from his travels with his family’s rich history in distilling, Pierre had created a truly one of a kind gin: Normindia.

Romate Amontillado Sherry

Romate is a family run house that has been producing fine Sherry (Jerez) since 1781. The key factors in crafting this wine style are the white Albariza soils, the Andalusian sun and the native grapes, Palomino, Airen and Pedro Ximenes. The production process for Sherry is a long and relatively complicated one with many steps in which Romate combines traditional and modern techniques in order to create a consistent quality product.
