Southern France

A mediterranean climate with warm summers and mild winters makes this region an ideal place for growing grapes. There is an incredible variety and variability within this large region, so it is not easy make generalizations regarding a particular wine style. It can be said, however, that all wines have improved in quality in the last twenty years with increasing investment in the region, better vineyard management and the introduction of modern winemaking techniques.

As a result, there are increasing numbers of Appellation Controllee wines as well as many varietally labelled IGP (Indication Geographique Protegee) wines that have replaced the now defunct Vin de Table classification. These PGI wines are produced under less stringent rules than the higher quality classification in other regions, plus they offer excellent value and broad international appeal due to the fact that the grape varietals are clearly stated on the label.
