Corsica

Corsica is an island in the Mediterranean Sea situated south east of Provence, France and west of Italy’s Tuscan coast.  Although it has been under French rule since 1769, it shares a lot of cultural and viticultural similarities with Italy.  In fact, its most planted and prized red grape, Niellucio, is the same grape as Italy’s beloved Sangiovese and its white grape, Rolle is the same as Vermentino.  Corsica’s obviously Mediterranean climate, with many sunshine hours and little rainfall makes it well suited to viticulture. In recent years there has been a move towards quality wine making.
