Right Bank: Pomerol AC
This small region is very prestigious and sought after by wine lovers due to the tiny estates, limited production, and the rarity of the wines. Wines produced in this area are rich and sweetly spicy with blackberry fruit aromas and flavours. This region has no formal classification and there are many “garage winemakers” ( garagistes) making very expensive wines in tiny quantities from very well-tended small plots. These vins de garages are often made from very ripe Merlot grapes and aged in new French oak barriques. The wines are extremely concentrated and full-bodied with a rich velvety texture and toasty, spicy notes from the oak. It is a richer style than what Bordeaux has traditionally been known for and it pays off.
