Aglianico
Aglianico, pronounced “alli-yawn-nico”, is a Southern Italian red grape that makes full bodied, high acid and high tannin wines. It grows in the regions of Campania and Basilicata. Savoury flavours of cured meat, white pepper and black fruits are typical in young wines, as the wines age the aromas and flavours move towards dried fruit and tanned leather with dusty tannins. These are rustic, earthy wines and can be in the same quality category as wines made from Nebbiolo in the north and Sangiovese in central Italy.
