Pinotage is South Africa’s signature red wine grape. It was created in the 1920′s by crossing the red grapes Cinsault and Pinot Noir. As South Africa’s second most widely planted red variety, Pinotage makes a variety of different wine styles from light and juicy, to rich and full-bodied.
Pinotage is not only enjoyed by the South African locals, but has fans the world over. Pinotage is a deeply-coloured grape that ripen easily and early. It offers aromas and flavours reminiscent of wild brambles and plum jams, along with a sweet earthiness. Pinotage is often aged in oak.
