Seyval Blanc

Seyval Blanc is a French hybrid grape originally released in 1921 in Drome, France, where it was known as Seyve-Villard, named for its creators.  Though, it never really took root in France, it is favoured in Canadian vine growing regions for its cold hardiness.  It buds and ripens early which is ideal in a marginal climate.  Seyval displays aromas of citrus with some minerality.  Like Chardonnay, it can be made in a range of styles; you can find malo lactic fermented, sparkling and oak aged versions all exist.  This grape is planted extensively in Nova Scotia, Finger Lakes region of New York state and England.
