Malbec

Made popular by the fruit forward, juicy and affordable wines coming out of Argentina, Malbec originated in the Medoc region of Bordeaux. In this area, Malbec was (and still is!) used to add colour and fruity notes to the famous blends. The grape is also produced as a single varietal in the Cahors region of Southwest France, sometimes blended with Tannat or Merlot to produce a wine with more tannin and structure than its Argentine counterpart.

This grape typically produces wines that are a deep purple, inky hue. Malbec is usually a medium to full-bodied, dry red wine with plenty of acidity and higher tannin and alcohol levels.
