Franken

Franken’s main white grapes are Muller-Thurgau and Silvaner.  Where Riesling would struggle to ripen here, Silvaner is a better suited grape because it flowers earlier and ripens earlier. The region’s best examples of Silvaner come from  the South facing slopes around Wurzburg; they are dry, with notable richness and an earthy mineral note.  Wurtzburg Silvaner is bottled in the traditional flask shaped bottle, the bocksbeutel.
