Pineau d’Aunis
Pineau D’Aunis (pronounced “Pee-no Doh-nee” is a red grape variety that was once widely grown in the Loire Valley, particularly around Tours, Anjou and Saumur; it is characterized by a slight peppery flavour. Much of it was largely ripped out to make room for more commercially attractive varieties. Thankfully, a handful of producers still make red wines and pretty roses from this grape.
