Jason has over 17 years of experience as a wine merchant and he’s been with Bishop’s Cellar since 2013. He believes the advice he received early in his career that “drinking wine with good food and good company enhances your conversation, your meal, and your life”.

Jason works in our shop and within our purchasing team to manage the store’s wine needs. He has a true passion for being an approachable wine professional: he works hard to make wine shopping less complicated and intimidating for customers of all knowledge levels.

A self-proclaimed “Rhone Ranger” (lover of wines from the Rhone Valley in France), Jason keeps busy and active outside the store. He also loves baseball, hitting the gym, spending time with his awesome fiancee Amanda, and getting outside with his dog Riley.

What is Picpoul de Pinet and why should you be drinking more of it?

Picpoul is for the most part being produced in Pinet, a Commune of the Languedoc Roussillon area of southern France. There it is known as Picpoul de Pinet. If it’s being made anywhere else it will be known just as Picpoul. 

Auriele Vic’s Picpoul de Pinet is aromatic and has notes of lemon zest, green apple, and white flower. She has toned down picpouls usually high acidity just a touch, offering a rounded version of the grape known for its high acid. 

Next time you are having Oysters or local seafood, pick up a bottle of Picpoul instead of the more common Pinot Grigio or the more traditional Muscadet. After all It was originally farmed on the coast of the Mediterranean to pair with Shellfish from the same area.
